Thornbridge for Everyone - Forever.

We have had a constructive meeting with the Peak Park - getting to know their new Senior Team - Finding out that we have a host of shared values and ambitions for the Peak Park and its ability to enhance and transform lives.

Thornbridge has been active in this ever since we became its custodians  - yes it is 20 years next year!

Many of you know of my determination that Thornbridge never again suffers from the dereliction we found 20 years ago and that it has a future way beyond our lifetimes.

To that end Jim and I are planning to place Thornbridge into a trust - such that the public can always enjoy the magic of the place. Our children know that they cannot inherit Thornbridge - it is too precious and has to be protected from one day having lawyers fighting over its value!

In addition  - and this is where I would like people’s ideas and help ( consultation groups?)

We are drafting a 20 year Whole Estate Plan for Thornbridge - an idea the Peak Park shared with us.

The Thornbridge Whole Estate Plan 2022-2024

It’s purpose?

Thornbridge for Everyone - Forever.

There is a lot of research, thinking and talking to be done. The plan will cover everything from nature, wildlife, trees, climate change challenges, conservation, restoration, gardens, income streams, jobs, careers, heritage, new developments, the establishing of an international arts and crafts centre and so much more.

All of it is aimed at making sure that Thornbridge flourishes and can stand on its own 2 feet - without always depending on Jim and me. Rebuilding and restoring Thornbridge has cost us £20m over the last 20 years  - no grants - not a penny! To keep places like this open, developing and safeguarding is eye wateringly expensive  - which, sadly, is why so many of the great houses were left to rot and knocked down - but NOT Thornbridge - no way - it is too loved by too many people - including us - and we are determined that it is always here and always open to everyone.

As ever - get in touch if you want to help out or have your say
