Highland Cow - Pottery Workshop

  • THORNBRIDGE HALL, Bakewell, England, DE45 1NZ United Kingdom (map)

Create Your Own Adorable Highland Cow

Join Vicky Scotcher for a fun and creative three-hour workshop where we’ll sculpt this charming, shaggy Highland Cow!

This session is perfect for everyone—whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced artist looking for a relaxing morning or afternoon of clay play. Vicky will lead you through the entire process step-by-step, with live demonstrations at every stage. We’ll start by using the pinch-pot technique to form the basic body shape. From there, you’ll add a characterful head with horns (you can choose to make them large or small!) and a cute nose. To get that iconic look, we’ll use a clay extruder to create shaggy hair, which we will then carefully attach to our cows. To achieve a rustic, organic look, we’ll leave the cow’s body primarily in its natural clay colour. However, you can choose to add a splash of colour by glazing the horns or facial details to make them really pop!

  Workshop Details:

  • Duration: 3 hours

  • Size: Your finished Highland Cow will be approximately 10cm long.

  • Materials: All tools and materials are provided. Just bring along an apron if you wish to protect your clothes!

Please Note: Pottery is a slow process! Your handcrafted cows cannot be taken home on the day, as they need time to dry before being fired and glazed in my kiln. A choice of glaze colours will be provided during the session. Your finished pieces will be ready to collect from the emporium approximately 2 to 3 weeks later.
